This morning I discovered hummus. That flavor I tried was roasted red pepper. This morning I ate whole wheat toast with hummus, alfalfa sprouts, and tomato slices. It was delicious. I really didn't expect that I would like it so much. I thought it would be a task to eat, but it tasted good and I didn't feel guilty. The other day when the kids were out of school we ate something that was much more healthy than normal for my manchild. We ate veggie subs. Now normally it is loaded down with mayo and pickles, but we did much better than usual. We started with wheat hoagie rolls (not whole wheat cause I couldn't find any). The filling was red lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, tomato, klausin pickle sandwich slices (not as many as usual), tzatziki (garlic flavor), a little (very little) sundried tomato vinegrette. Even my manchild liked it! He even asked to have it again twice during the week. Just thought I'd share. Now if you want to eat a raw food diet these meals can be modified. You could replace the bread with one of the raw dried breads instead. You can always place bread with lettuce. What do I mean? Make a lettuce wrap sandwich instead.
Tzatziki and hummus are wonderful substitutes for mayo and both provide protein. Hummus uses soaked (not cooked) chickpeas, and tzatziki uses yogurt. Enjoy.
